Spring has Sprung

If you don't like Cherry Blossoms you should probably skip this post.  It has been awhile since we've updated the blog.  Since our last post Cherry Blossoms have bloomed and started to fall like a pink snowfall blown wildly in the breeze coating anything and everything in pink cotton candy petals.  They gather in every nook and cranny; in every drain and sewer.  Like snow, but without the cold.  It is truly one of the most beautiful things that Bethany and I have seen.  The point is we have an extraordinary amount of pictures of cherry blossom trees and this is just a sample of them.

Besides looking at pretty flowers in Trees we've also had some unique experiences.  One Saturday one of my Adult Students invited Bethany and me to go to A shaman expo at the National Museum.  We watched a little bit of some traditional performances and looked at a lot of their spiritual items.  Many of these items were paper craft with extremely intricate designs.  It was very interesting and we learned a lot.  While we were there we also toured the National Museum and learned about the history of Jeju.

These little Statues were used to Guard and Take of the Body after Death.

Bethany made me add this picture.

From March 29th to April 1st Bethany and I went to a teachers retreat.  It wasn't exactly how we wanted to spend our weekend, especially since we just got done with training less than a month before.  We also were not excited for the all day Saturday Church service which we were led to believe was mandatory.  We later found out that it was not Mandatory and that we only had to attend one seminar.  We stayed in Guest housing with one other couple that we had met in Orientation.  The guest house had two bedroom, each with three twin beds (two of which were bunk beds).  We had a decent time though and had a good amount of time to spend with the friends that we had made in Seoul.  I played soccer with a bunch of the teachers while Bethany cheered me on and took pictures.  All in all it wasn't a completely bad experience but it definitely wasn't a shining moment in Korea.

Ball almost hit me in the face.
They had one flag for pretty much every other country and 10 for America.

The food here is delicious.  We've tried a lot of different food including "American Food".  There is a pizza place that isn't half bad near city hall that has all sorts of pizza; not that many that would look familiar to most westerners but still delicious.  What really bothers Bethany about the Pizza is they put corn on nearly all the pizza.  I have to admit it isn't half bad.  Bethany's favorite style of food is Korean Barbecue which involves cooking your own food on your table. There is a little place that does this underneath our apartment and we go there all the time. The owner doesn't speak much English, and there isn't a physical menu but we manage.  There is also another little place  further from our apartment that we like to go to because they have 치킨 마요 (Chicken Mayo) which is basically Chicken with spicy mayo sauce over rice.  It is delicious.

Bethany found these socks and could not resist buying them.

This is Bethany's Classroom.  It is wallpapered with her classes' worksheets.
